Agile Aperture Antenna Technology

Agile Aperture Antenna Technology is developed by Georgia Tech Research Institute. It is expected to have more reliable and faster data tranmission about video, audio and environment. This is the technology the signal can be transferred easily without distortion in water and environmental conditions such as temperature, oxygen, salt etc..

agile_aperture-relatedinfo

In December 2012, the antenna was attached to a Wave Glider vehicle and placed into the ocean off the coast of Hawaii. The Wave Glider, an autonomous marine robot developed by California-based Liquid Robotics, Inc., uses only the ocean’s endless supply of wave energy for propulsion. The Wave Glider can collect ocean data for a wide range of applications, including meteorology, oceanography, national security and offshore energy. Solar panels on the vehicle power the antenna, which requires only 0.25 watts of power and can switch up to 1,000 beams per second.

During the demonstration, the antenna maintained a satellite link with a sustained data upload rate of 200 kilobits per second (Kbps) for several hours, despite the Wave Glider rolling and yawing back and forth on the waves. The Agile Aperture Antenna required significantly less power and space to achieve these test results than a gimbaled antenna or a phased array solution.

“Because the antenna autonomously tracked its own position and orientation relative to the satellite and steered itself to stay connected, it maintained a highly directional antenna beam to the satellite as the craft moved around, which enabled data transfers near the maximum expected rate of 240 Kbps,” said Gregory Kiesel, a GTRI senior research engineer. “Antenna integration was also easy because the craft did not need to communicate with the antenna to maintain the connection.”

The Agile Aperture Antenna requires less power and takes up less space than traditional antenna solutions including mechanical systems and phased-array antennas. The technology also exhibits higher reliability than mechanical systems and is less expensive than phased-array antennas.

“The combination of the Wave Glider’s long duration and intelligent autonomy capabilities through GTRI’s new Agile Aperture Antenna provides customers with increased communications precision through the roughest of seas,” said Richard “Scoop” Jackson, director of federal business development with Liquid Robotics. “The availability of the GTRI Agile Aperture Antenna on the Wave Glider SV Series comes at a perfect time when deployment of autonomous surface vehicles for maritime security is rapidly increasing due to the cost and capability advantages.”

The antenna’s performance can be optimized because it is reconfigurable, which means the electrical structure of the antenna can be easily changed – even while in operation in the field. The antenna consists of a thin dielectric substrate that supports an array of square, metallic patches that can be switched on or off as needed to provide the proper configuration. The researchers measure the antenna patterns to determine which switches should be open and which should be closed to optimize the antenna performance.

New WLAN Antennas of Ericsson into the vehicle (BUS) window

Ericsson produce new generation antennas with respect to wireless heterogenous network. Idea can be applied to vehicle types containing windows such as car, truck, train.

Constructing the Wi-Fi antenna built-in windows, Ericsson wanted to resolve the problem affecting mobile users who travel by bus and want at this time to establish a connection to the cellular network. Often they can not do this because currently produced glass can contain a thin, totally transparent layer which is made of a special aluminum in glass. This insulation protects passengers by sunlight or low temperatures. In conjunction with the metal casing forming a vehicle, such design is nothing like the classic Faraday cage, which stops the radio waves.

The passengers of the vehicle can not use external cellular networks because it blocks all radio signals. While these are simple, passive antennas, each of which greatly improves the working of internal wireless network.

GOVERMENT SUPPORTS EV %100

Turkish Goverment will produce %100 electric vehicle on behalf of Tubitak. The programme 1007 enables Automotive Producers, Univeristies & Tubitak to work together and to produce domestic Electric Vehicle.

Budget Rate will be determined by Projects and the vehicle builds will be determined by Automotive Producer Companies. Turkish Goverment will buy 40 vehicle every year that enables to support the status. All components of vehicle will be domestic and the projects will be ended after 4 year which enables more robust timing plan. The projects can start about one year later due to legal procedure and boundaries.

NEW BOEING MISSILE CAN CUT OFF ELECTRICITY

Science fiction became reality.US AERO Company BOEING creates new missile which can cut off electricity of the strategical places after it goes above. The electrical equipments can not be used after the process of this missile. The project name is CHAMP and the meaning is High Powered Microwave Advanced Missile. The Hi-Tech industry explains this development as the new age. Before the wars, this technology will be used and then the aircrafts, soldiers and all other equipments will be grounded to the enemy territory. US tested this technology in UTAH desert in 2012-10-16. The technology did not destroy any places or things but it can cut off all energy sources, electricity and other electrical equipments.

CHAMP working principle: Microwave, high-energy vibrations emitted by a jet fighter-launched missile, hit the target based on electronic devices. Thanks to strong radio waves of a sudden all of the devices in buildings, including the computer shuts down. This does not cause any destruction or loss of life.

Boeing officials explain that the project will be developed and tested more & it is not decided to be used for the U.S. Army.

HULC Biomecanic System

US Military aims to use biomecanical device HULC which is exe-skeleton for soldiers. The prorotype device is produced and there will be seven month tests include carrying the external loads. The Research group takes feedback from soldiers after tests. The test conditions includes equal gravity, timeiload and speed. The tests show the amount of consumed oxygen per effeciency of metabolism.

HULC can carry ninety kg load. It is designed without any restriction of soldier movement and can be used twenty kilometers with a charge capacity. It works consistency with the body of soldier enabled by one of micro-computer.

BMW@Bursa

BMW wants to increase investment sources and have planned to set up the plant to Bursa. They draw the plant scheme on Yenisehir,Bursa. On the other hand, they also draw the plant schemes for Hungary and Poland.Hungary and Poland are the second and third alternative for them.By the way, they also thought to set up the plant in Manisa,Turkey but then they changed. It is obvious that they use Turkey as a plant. Ahmet APAK thinks that they can not use Turkey as R&D or P&D engineering because their big research centers are in Canada, in Germany and in USA.They have also engaged with Peugeot&Citroen about electric vehicle Research and development.
